<-- : Long weekend : -->

TGIF!!!!!

After a whole week of waking up at 6am to work my ass off for 40 hours this week, I am sooooooo relieved to be able to finally relax, sit around and do nothing for the next three days!!! Yup you got it. It's not just any weekend, but a long weekend!!! yay!!!

And there seems to be so much going on this long weekend.

First of, the finale of the HSBC Celebration of Lights 2007 is happening this Saturday (I watched Spain's showcase on Youtube and I thought that they did an excellent job!! China was really good too, although they had a really boring soundtrack >< But definitely 10 points for quality of the fireworks). I am so psyched for the event... The event has been going on annually for the past decade or so, and this is the first year that I actually followed up with the whole thing, so I'm pretty wrapped up in it. lol.

In addition to that, this weekend is Pride Weekend where all sorts of events are being held to celebrate the pride of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transexuals (GLBT). On Sunday, the Pride Parade will be held along Davie Street (aka gay street). FYI, most GLBTs live around that area of Downtown Vancouver and amusingly, all bus stops and garbage cans in that area are painted a bright pink instead of the usual dull grey, complemented by colourful banners all along the street.

I am thinking of going.. just because I have never participated in it before. I think it would be an interesting experience.

AND since it's the long weekend, I am thinking of maybe going for a hike on one of Vancouver's many beautiful trails or hit the beach with another picnic.

I feel like doing something different, instead of the usual movie-dinner-dessert. After all, life is short and I believe that we should gain a diverse set of experiences... you know, the cliche "live life to the fullest", "make the most out of life" sort of thing. I want to be 60 and to be able to look back and proudly say that I have done this and that, not waste my youth away drinking, smoking, partying and doing nothing that really mattered.

Sure I like to have fun. I don't mind a party or two. Or three. But I can't imagine doing that every weekend. I dont understand how some people can hit the clubs every weekend, smoke pot and drink themselves away. But then again, I guess this is just another choice in lifestyle. These people are probably wondering the same thing about me... how could I not want to party, drink and smoke pot every weekend. (I don't smoke pot btw, although it seems that practically every Vancouverite that grew up here are potheads or at least used to be one in their teens to early thirties.)

Anywhos, another FYI: It is legal to smoke pot in Vancouver but illegal to sell it.

I know, weird fact. I remember when I first came to Vancouver, I was immensely awed to smell the aroma of marijuana anywhere I went, whether I was walking down Robson street, sitting on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery, or waiting for a bus at the bus stop. Now, I am so used to it as I am used to rain in the fall. (Lol, think only people living in Vancouver will get this.)

Let's hope that the weekend will be bright and sunny. This summer has been a sucky one. Its been raining a lot lately and for some reason, we havent had many sunny weekends. Its been a real drag.

Oh, today I read that Gwen Stefani has agreed to exchange her usually seductive wardrobe for a more appropriate one while performing in Malaysia. lol. What amused me more was that I read this on the second page of a local Vancouverite daily, 24. lol. Even funnier was the fact that 24 rarely reported any news on Malaysia (come to think of it, I dont think they EVER mentioned Malaysia) and they chose to report this incident over all the other issues that could be more important. In fact, it was probably because of Gwen Stefani that Malaysia was even mentioned.

Dont get me wrong. I'm not dissing Malaysia or anything. Just thought I'd point out how ironic it was that 24 would choose to report such an insignificant incident.

Alright. I will probably sound very bimbotic and I know there are people dying and more important things happening in the world but I'd like to end this entry with a:

YAY! The sun is out! =D
