<-- : Today, my friend came to pick me up after work. It was a spontaneous thing really, and we weren't sure where to go, weren't sure if we should go for a drink, grab a quick bite or just chill somewhere. After half an hour of mindless driving later, we decided to check out La Casa Gelato on Venables St. I've heard a lot about this place prior to this excursion. This place is reknowned for its flabberghasting variety of flavours (at least 218 different flavours in-store daily), and has consistently been ranked as housing one of the city's best gelatos. Having heard so much about this place, it was only a matter of time that I personally see what the fuss was all about. I saw the store from a block away and I knew instantly that it was La Casa Gelato from its unmistakable italian-style logo and pink building (yes, pink ><). When we went in, we were immediately impressed by the amount of space in the store, with buckets and buckets of gelato facing right at us. For a whole 15 minutes, we were walking along the ice cream aisle, struggling to decide on a flavour. Some flavours seemed downright weird such as Curry, Garlic, and Balsamic Vinegar. =_='
After much thought, we decided to stick to old-fashioned butter pecan (that's me) and chocolate oreo (eric).
We spent about an hour in La Casa. There's no denying that this store offers a wide variety of flavours to choose from, however I find that many of these flavours are actually a derivative of some. For eg: Strawberry, strawberry cheesecake, stawberry mango, strawberry sorbet etc. Distinct flavours such as curry, wasabi, poccini mushrooms and garlic appear untouched. Somehow I have a feeling that these flavours are created purely for display purposes. Surprisingly, the durian flavour was popular among La Casa's customers. The guy behind the counter told me (as I was paying for my gelato) that durian was his favourite. Before I could try it, it was already sold out. Boo. Nevertheless, it was an interesting visit to La Casa. Eric and I both enjoyed our gelato. I am looking forward to going back there again, this time, to try the durian flavour. =) New Blog! - Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 Mon Bella - Tuesday, August 18, 2009 18 more days.. and counting.. - Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 - - Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 Random entry.... - Thursday, Aug. 06, 2009 |
