<-- : A Better Malaysia? : -->

Its been awhile since I last blogged. Lately I havent been motivated to blog at all. I would start typing.... but end up with the writer's block and would close the window altogether because I feel that I am writing about nothing at all.

The Malaysian political scene has been a widely discussed issue among all of my friends as of late. More and more people I know are starting to get agigated over how the government works.

To be honest, reading blogs written by policital bloggers is not in my daily routine, if at all. The only news I gather about the Malaysian policial scene is from friends and their blogs. Even so, I have noticed that young adults who are educated like myself are becoming increasingly bold in criticizing the government and how they handle their matters.

They are not afraid to voice their opinions and let the "truth" be known to everyone who reads what they have to write. The "truth" being events that occurred or are occuring but have failed to be reported or portrayed as it is in the Malaysian media for fear of reflecting the government in a bad light.

Personally, the whole blogger issue that is causing a rage among the government ministers is inflicting a flicker of hope in me.

A twinge of hope that maybe - just maybe - there will be a better future for the younger generations of Malaysia.

I wonder if there will be a revolution. If there would be someone like V from V for Vendetta to overthrow the government. If there would be enough Malaysians who would call for a radical change. If WE were brave enough to pursue equality and fairness.

I find that most people (me included) would disagree with the racial discrimination that exists in Malaysia but doesn't actively do something about it to make things better. Yes, the Malaysian government are a bunch of hypocrites for making a case against South Africa for their apartheid ways, but fail to acknowledge that they were discriminating other ethnics within Malaysia for claiming that the bumiputeras SHOULD have special rights with no questions asked. And not many would actually come forward and do something about it.

Why not? Mainly because:

1) We are afraid of being arrested given that basic human rights does not apply when you are imprisoned in Malaysian cells.

2) We often think that we do not have the power to change things.

If Malaysia promised a better future for me, I would definitely have gone back to Malaysia after graduation with no questions asked. I wouldnt even need to come to Vancouver to study in the first place.

I know a large number of young Malaysians who opt to settle down overseas to seek for a better standard of living, a better career, a better future for themselves. Even the ones that want to go back to Malaysia would opt to work and live in Singapore instead. Anywhere but Malaysia, if they had a choice. Although of course there are many who would choose to go back to Malaysia for their families.

All I'm saying is. Young Malaysian talents are serving other countries and not their own. Which is a sign of a country failing her duty as a provider and caretaker to her own people.

Hope... that there will be change. Any change. A little change is enough to keep me believing, to keep on hoping.
